The Beard Maintenance Kit Essentials

The Beard Maintenance Kit Essentials

What products did we choose to build the ultimate beard maintenance kit? I like to refer to it as the beard necessities, what?! I liked Jungle Book. We wanted to make a kit that carries the products that we would recommend to anyone who is looking to take care of his facial hair. It all comes in a nice wooden box too for tidy storage.   So, what is in this beard maintenance kit?   1x Braw Beard Wash If you are not shampooing your beard 3-5 times per week, you may be leaving dirt in there which may result in spots and irritation on the skin’s surface. Braw Beard Wash has been specially formulated for facial hair, we added aloe vera to combat dry skin and beard dandruff. It is a natural shampoo, unscented so it does not interfere with the scent of your favourite beard oil. Apply to wet beard and massage in for 30 seconds before rinsing thoroughly, make sure your wash it all out, leaving some residue may result in irritation. Towel dry your facial hair gently, once it’s dry, your beard will feel soft already. BUT we’re not done there!   2x Braw Beard Oils Braw Beard Oil is a natural conditioner which is designed to be left in your facial hair throughout the day. It is made from plant based oils, which moisturise the hair, making it appear healthy and soft. Ok, so now your beard has been gently towel dried, you’ll want to apply some beard oil. Dispense a few drops of beard oil into the palm of your hand, rub your...
Using Jojoba Oil For Beard Growth – Here’s Why You Need It

Using Jojoba Oil For Beard Growth – Here’s Why You Need It

Why would you need jojoba oil for beard growth? Since the very 1st bottle of beard oil we made back in 2012, one of our ingredients has been jojoba oil. Jojoba is an organic oil that is extracted from the seeds of jojoba trees. This oil is rich in vitamin B and E. Vitamin B in the oil is great for retaining moisture in the hair and skin, while vitamin E is effective in hydrating the hair and skin.   Using Jojoba Oil For Beard Growth Why do we use it? Because it’s so beneficial to hair and skin. Nutritional benefits (note: don’t drink the beard oil!) of jojoba oil are accompanied by topical benefits when it is used to moisturise the skin and hair. It is very effective at hydrating the hair and skin, which keeps the follicles healthy. This is the perfect scenario to allow faster hair growth. De-hydrated follicles can lead to pain, dandruff, irritation and even hair loss. Jojoba oil is one of our favourite oils because it doesn’t leave the hair feeling greasy, but yet it feels so smooth! We chose to add it to our beard oils and beard butters because it is so reliable for moisturising. Keep the follicles hydrated and happy, then you’ll have a great beard. Photo by Phil Wilkinson. We are in the Isle of Man TT game!!

That lid! We are so proud to be featured in the Isle of Man TT game, coming out on PS4, Xbox and PC! Braw athlete Jamie Coward will be a playable character in the game which is due for release in March 2018, we can’t wait! After a successful season for Jamie, we are over the moon that he has been recognised and selected to feature, it’s a huge honour.     To have Braw Beard make an appearance means way more than you think… You see, I have a huge emotional connection to the Isle of Man and the TT races. As you may know, most of my family are bikers of some sort. My parents were visiting the Isle of Man for the TT races since turning 16 and getting a bike. They made the annual trip to watch their heroes race on the famous road circuit. Even when my mum was pregnant with me, they were there cheering on the racers from stonewalls and hedges. Myself and my childhood hero, Steve Hislop. The Isle of Man would become our holiday destination, usually in the TT fortnight too. Since I was born, I have been there over 25 times, both to visit the island and watch the TT races. It has played a huge role in my life. My mum passed away in 2014, she had 2 requests before she died. 1. That her ashes were scattered on the Isle of Man. 2. Any money collected from her funeral went to the Rob Vine Fund, who are a charity dedicated to providing the best pre-hospital medical and...
The Best Beard Wash And How To Use It

The Best Beard Wash And How To Use It

How to pick the best beard wash? Really? You get shampoo for your beard? ………yep. I’ll explain why we have formulated the best beard wash. Have you tried using your partner’s expensive hair shampoo for your beard? It works alright, makes it feel soft for a while, but then when he/she realises you’ve nicked some, you face a wrath that makes you feel like it wasn’t really worth the effort. Plus, there are most likely chemicals in regular shampoo that YOU DO NOT WANT anywhere near your facial hair (or hair for that matter). Is regular shampoo good for my beard? No. Most high street brand shampoos contain compounds that are actually not that great for your beard. This can lead to hair damage, dryness, dandruff and beard breakage. Things to look out for are: Alcohol based products, alcohol dries out the moisture from hair and skin. This happens when you use alcohol based shampoos, but people get caught in the trap of using more to combat the dryness, not realising the damage done. You know the hungover feeling after absorbing copious amounts of alcohol hours earlier, now imagine how your hair is feeling after being doused in the shit, not ideal for growing glorious locks is it? Silicone based products, it can create the illusion of healthy, smooth feeling hair. But actually what it does is coat the hair and stops any nutrients from your Braw Beard oil penetrating and nourishing the hair shaft. If you suffocate the hair, it will get damaged and break, or fall out. Really cheap shampoo. I know, shampoo shouldn’t be expensive right?...
My Beard Hurts! Here Is How To Stop The Pain

My Beard Hurts! Here Is How To Stop The Pain

My beard hurts and feels tender, why? Believe it or not, this is quite common and there are numerous reasons for it. I’ve been there myself, before I started the Braw Beard brand. My facial hair would feel tender and sometime be painful at the roots, I was so tempted to shave it off, but I didn’t. It was only after I started taking care of my facial hair that the pain disappeared totally. I’ll explain below some causes for painful facial hair and how to resolve them. My beard hurts! Why? 1. A dry and brittle beard. I hear & see it alot at shows, guys saying to me they wouldn’t use beard care products because it’s not manly or that they use engine oil, yep that may sound cool, but it certainly doesn’t look cool when their chin is producing more flakes than winter. You see, dry skin and dandruff will cause itchiness and irritation on the skin and at the hair root, this leads to pain and discomfort….and a glittery looking black t-shirt. 2. Wear and tear. If your chin is subject to impact or adverse weather conditions like our athletes, the hair follicles may be under strain from the hair being pulled/pushed in an unnatural direction. This usually takes a few days to settle, however, keeping hydrated and moisturising along with brushing the hair gently will help. 3. De-hydration. Are you drinking enough water? Drank too much alcohol? If the hair roots are not moisturised enough, they will become dry and painful. 4. Shampoo residue. If your shampoo hasn’t been rinsed off thoroughly, residue may...
Winter is coming, prepare your chinsulation to combat the cold.

Winter is coming, prepare your chinsulation to combat the cold.

With winter fast approaching, is your winter beard ready? It sounds daft, I know. BUT there are very good reasons to extra care of your beard in the cold weather. Prepare your winter beard. The harsh weather can strip your hair of natural oils. With lack of moisture in the strands, they will become weak and brittle, leading to breakages. If you are out and about for the day, it is worth taking a beard oil with you to top up if required. The beard oil will add extra nutrients to protect and condition the hair, keeping it looking healthy. With high winds, your beard may also end up in a tangled mess with knots. Many people will just yank a comb or brush through harshly and break and dislodge hair. Please take your time when combing your beard, start slowly with a little beard oil applied, then once the hair is snag free, use a boar bristle brush to evenly distribute your chosen beard care product. Look after your skin too! The winter weather can also dry out your skin as well as your hair. Use a good natural skin moisturiser like Battle Scar Skin and Stubble Moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated in the winter. Consider using Beard Wash every morning, with a good beard oil afterwards. It’s worth taking a beard oil & comb out with you if the weather is harsh to keep topped up. Being from Scotland, we know harsh weather VERY WELL. That’s why we have introduced a range of soft bobblehats and very warm hooded tops for ultimate comfort. They both even...
Do you have a nasty beard? Here’s how to clean up your act!

Do you have a nasty beard? Here’s how to clean up your act!

Do you have a nasty beard? We’ve heard it before, “I use nothing but engine oil” yep, we can tell. “I lube mine with lady juice” suuuuure you do. “I’m not using that shit in my beard” no worries. Now we’re not saying you NEED beardcare products, no-one does, they are a luxury item, but a highly beneficial one. We’ve not met a person yet who wants to get it on with a wiry, stragly, stanky ass beard, not one. Now clean that chinsulation with beard wash, apply a scented beard oil or scented beard butter and brush ‘that shit’ through… different story. See, ‘that shit’ has MANY benefits. 1. Beard wash, all natural, contains aloe vera, hydrates the skin and softens your chinpubes.   2. Beard oil, scented or unscented, your choice. Again all natural, keeps the hair soft, clean and healthy looking. It’s like catnip for the ladies – according to WolverDean. It’s like aftershave without the shave.   3. Beard butter, again scented or unscented options are available. Natural ingredients in this powerful wee potion. The beeswax holds the wispy hairs in place, saving you from adopting stray cat whiskers. Scottish summers are famous for their beautiful gale force winds. Get back indoors and just pull your beard back into shape with the butter.     4. Boar bristle brush, these soft bristles distribute the hair evenly, giving a fuller look. Small enough to fit in your pocket too.   5. Tash wax, do you finding yourself flossing with your moustache? Apply a little tash wax and tell it to stop playing with your food.  ...
Why Do Men Grow Beards?

Why Do Men Grow Beards?

Initially when asked, why do men grow beards? Our answer is, because It Grows For A Reason – like it said on our t-shirt! But I guess there is a little more to it than that. Men have an abundance of testosterone which in turn, fuels the facial hair follicles, producing thicker hair. Everyone has facial hair, men and women, but men usually produce thicker, darker facial hair due to high levels of testosterone. Beards were seen as a sign of a more masculine male back in the day, someone of status, a hunter or a feared warrior. But in the modern day, with mobile phones, skinny jeans and supermarkets to get your food sources from, beards don’t have the same significance as they did hundreds of years ago.   So nowadays, why do men grow beards? Many men grow facial hair for different reasons today, some like the unshaven look or designer stubble, a 5 o’clock shadow, some grow a moustache or beard for charity. Some guys grow facial hair to attract a partner. But a lot of people I know, just plain and simple, LIKE BEARDS. As I always say, it grows for a reason, if you like it, let it grow. If you don’t, shave it. I am interested to hear your reasons for growing your beard. Why do YOU have a beard? Too lazy to shave? To hide your chins? To make you look ‘tough’? For me personally, I was always surrounded by people who had beards, my parents loved rock music, naturally my choice in music became rock. Almost every band had someone with...
