I’ve changed my beard care routine with COVID-19 circulating

Hey, I hope you are well and staying safe? Keeping up with your beard care?

Unless you are required to wear a respirator mask, we are NOT being advised to shave! There are several articles doing the rounds online suggesting that bearded men should shave to protect themselves from catching COVID-19. If beards were a threat, eyebrows, nasal hair and head hair would need to go too. I’m beginning to think a razor company may be pushing these claims.

Anyway…

People have been asking me if my beard care routine is different with coronavirus going around.

So, I wanted to let you know how I am looking after my beard at the moment given the current situation with COVID-19 circulating.

I have changed my routine slightly for 2 scenarios.

1 – If I don’t leave the house all day and have no contact with anyone outside my household:
• I wash my beard with Braw Beard Wash in the shower in the morning
• Then gently towel dry my beard
• Next, apply Braw Beard oil, my current choice is Anniversary19
• Then comb, then apply a little Braw Beard Butter for hold
• Finally, brush through to evenly distribute the product.

The slight change from my normal routine is, I am doing this daily. Normally I would use Braw Beard Wash every 2-3 days.

2 – If I am leaving the house to go to the supermarket for food or anywhere public:
• I wash my beard with Braw Beard Wash in the shower in the morning
• Then gently towel dry my beard
• Next, apply Braw Beard oil, my current choice is Anniversary19
• Then I comb to detangle the hair
• Lastly for morning, I tie my beard down like below.

The reason I tie it like this is to make it a smaller surface area. I don’t know if it makes much difference but it makes sense to me.
I don’t apply beard butter if I’m heading out because I’m tying the beard down anyway, so there’s no need for extra hold.

When I get home and I know I won’t be going back out:
• I’m washing my beard with Braw Beard Wash again (yes, twice a day).
• Then gently towel drying my beard & applying a little Braw Beard oil to moisturise, then brush it through.

That’s it really, nothing too drastic. If you’re heading outside and your beard isn’t long enough to tie down, I’d recommend NOT using a sticky beard wax. Although I have no proof, I’d worry the wax properties may attract and hold unwanted grime and particles. Again, I’m not a medical professional and don’t know if that is the case at all, but it makes sense to me.

This is what I am doing at the moment for beard care, I wrote this to answer questions asked about my personal experience, not to offer medical advice.

I’ve noticed my hands are drying out faster than normal due to washing them with hand sanitiser all day. So the other thing I am doing is rubbing some Battle Scar Skin and Stubble Moisturiser through my hands in the evening. It’s working well.

Stay home and stay hygienic.

Thank you for reading.
