Best Time To Use Beard Oil: Morning Or Night?
Best Time To Use Beard Oil: Morning Or Night?
When is the best time to use beard oil, morning or night?
It’s a question that comes up a lot, especially from men who are new to beard care and trying to build a proper routine.
Some people swear by applying beard oil before bed for “overnight conditioning.”
Others apply it first thing in the morning as part of their daily grooming routine.
So which one is actually better?
After running Braw Beard since 2012 and testing beard care products daily for well over a decade, here’s my honest experience.
For me personally?
Morning wins.
But there are a few important details worth understanding first.
What Does Beard Oil Actually Do?
Before talking about timing, it helps to understand what beard oil is actually designed for.
A quality beard oil is primarily a conditioner for:
• your beard hair
• the skin underneath
• the follicles
• the overall comfort of growing a beard
A good beard oil helps:
• reduce beard itch
• reduce dry skin
• soften coarse beard hair
• improve manageability
• reduce irritation
• improve appearance and feel
At Braw Beard, our beard oils are made with natural ingredients chosen for their conditioning and skin supporting properties, including hempseed oil as the main base ingredient.
The goal isn’t just to make the beard smell nice.
The goal is to improve the condition of both the hair and the skin underneath.

Why I Prefer Using Beard Oil In The Morning
My personal routine is simple:
1. Shower
2. Wash beard properly
3. Towel dry gently
4. Apply beard oil
5. Comb through
That’s been my routine for years.
Why Morning Works Best
1. Your Skin Is Warm After The Shower
After a warm shower, your skin and beard hair are clean and warm.
That helps the beard oil spread and absorb more effectively into:
• the hair
• the skin
• the follicles
It becomes part of your preparation for the day.
2. Beard Oil Lasts All Day
A properly formulated beard oil should not need constant reapplication.
Good beard oil should:
• absorb steadily
• condition throughout the day
• keep the beard comfortable for hours
If you’re using quality ingredients, one application in the morning is usually enough for most people.
3. You Avoid Rubbing It Off On Your Pillow
This is the biggest reason I personally don’t like applying beard oil directly before bed.
When you sleep:
• your beard rubs against the pillow
• oil transfers into fabric
• product gets wiped away
• your skin and hair may not get the full benefit
That’s especially true with heavier oils that take longer to absorb.
Is Using Beard Oil At Night Bad?
No, not necessarily.
Some people enjoy nighttime grooming routines and feel their beard benefits from overnight conditioning.
There are situations where evening application can make sense.
For example:
• after being outdoors all day
• after riding a motorcycle
• after exposure to wind or cold weather
• after air conditioning dries the beard out
• after washing dust or sweat from the beard
In those situations, applying a small amount in the evening can absolutely help recondition the beard.
But personally?
I still wouldn’t apply it immediately before sleeping.
I’d rather apply it earlier in the evening and allow time for absorption first.

The Quality Of The Beard Oil Matters
This is important.
Not all beard oils are the same.
Some brands formulate properly with skin-safe ingredients.
Others:
• buy pre-made formulas
• use fillers
• use synthetic ingredients
• prioritise fragrance over skin health
That matters because beard oil sits directly on your skin for hours.
If poor quality ingredients are rubbed into the skin repeatedly overnight, it can potentially contribute to:
• irritation
• clogged pores
• inflammation
• breakouts
That’s one reason ingredient quality matters so much.

Can You Use Beard Oil Twice Per Day?
Yes, depending on circumstances.
If your beard feels dry after:
• outdoor exposure
• gym sessions
• motorcycle riding
• harsh weather
• long work days
• excessive washing
then applying a second small amount later in the day can help.
But again, that’s usually evening use and not necessarily bedtime use.
Most men do not need heavy beard oil applications multiple times per day if the product is formulated properly.
So… Morning Or Night?
For most men, morning is likely the best time to use beard oil.
Why?
Because:
• your beard is clean
• your skin is warm after showering
• the oil has time to absorb properly
• your beard stays conditioned throughout the day
• you avoid losing product into your pillow overnight
That said, beard care is personal.
Some men genuinely enjoy nighttime routines.
The key is understanding:
• how your beard responds
• how your skin reacts
• how the product behaves
• what environment you spend your time in
My Recommended Beard Oil Routine
Morning
• Wash beard if needed
• Towel dry gently
• Apply beard oil
• Comb or brush through
• Style as normal
Evening (Optional)
• Reapply a small amount only if your beard feels dry
• Allow time to absorb before bed
Simple.
Consistent routines usually beat overcomplicated ones.
Final Thoughts
There’s no universal rule that says beard oil must be used morning or night.
But after years of daily use and running Braw Beard since 2012, I’ve personally found morning application gives the best balance of:
• comfort
• conditioning
• absorption
• beard appearance
• practicality
If you currently use beard oil at night and it works for you, fair enough.
But if you’ve never really thought about timing before, try switching to a proper morning routine for a couple of weeks and see how your beard responds.
You might notice a bigger difference than you expect.
