Heather Beard Oil Ingredients: For a Strong, Beautiful Beard
By John, founder of Braw Beard Oils
The Scottish heather plant, with its vibrant purple flowers, paints a striking picture across the wild, untamed landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. The heather plant is renowned for its resilience and ability to thrive in harsh conditions, symbolising strength, endurance, and natural beauty.
Braw Beard was inspired by these remarkable qualities when creating Heather beard oil, crafting a unique blend of natural ingredients to nurture and protect your beard, just as the heather plant thrives amidst the challenges of its environment.

The ingredients of Heather Braw Beard Oil
Hempseed Oil, the foundation
Hempseed oil has been the main ingredient in Braw Beard Oil since the very first bottle in 2012, and for very good reasons.
Pressed from hemp plant seeds, it contains the highest concentration of essential fatty acids of any plant oil, including omega 3, 6 and 9 in an ideal ratio for skin absorption.
It penetrates the hair shaft and skin at a cellular level rather than just coating the surface, which means your beard is actually hydrated rather than just temporarily smoothed over. It strengthens hair through keratin and ceramide support, soothes irritation, regulates sebum production, and supports healthy follicle activity.

Argan Oil for conditioning and shine
Argan oil comes from the kernels of the argan tree, native to Morocco, and it's earned its reputation as one of the finest conditioning oils in grooming. Rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and oleic and linoleic acids, it repairs damage along the hair shaft, reduces frizz, and gives the beard a natural, healthy shine without any greasiness.
Where hempseed oil works on the skin and follicle level, argan works on the hair itself. The two complement each other well. If your beard tends to be coarse, wiry, or prone to frizz, argan oil is a significant part of why Heather Braw Beard Oil helps with that.
Jojoba Oil for balance and comfort
Jojoba is technically a wax rather than an oil, which is what makes it unusual and useful. Its molecular structure is closer to human sebum, the natural oil your skin produces, than almost any other plant-derived ingredient. That means it absorbs easily, doesn't sit on the surface, and works with your skin's own processes rather than overriding them.
In practice: jojoba helps balance oil production, which reduces the conditions that lead to beardruff and blocked pores. It also forms a light protective layer on the hair shaft without any of the heaviness you get from mineral oil or silicone-based products. Non-greasy, fast-absorbing, and genuinely effective for beard itch and irritation. Brilliant.
Vitamin E for protection and repair
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant, which means it stays active in the oil formula and continues to work once applied. It protects the hair and skin from oxidative stress; the kind of low-level cellular damage caused by UV exposure, pollution, and general environmental wear.
Beyond protection, vitamin E supports healthy blood circulation when massaged into the skin, which feeds the follicles and supports growth. It also helps repair damaged hair, retain moisture, and reduce the appearance of split ends over time. It's the ingredient that makes a good beard oil last, both in the bottle and on your beard.
Sandalwood Essential Oil for warmth and skin support
Sandalwood is one of the classic beard oil scents for good reason. The oil, extracted from the heartwood of the sandalwood tree, has a warm, woody, slightly sweet depth. It’s the base note (the scent that lasts).
Beyond fragrance, sandalwood has genuine anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that benefit the skin underneath the beard. It soothes irritated skin, helps prevent minor infections at the follicle level, and has a mild astringent quality that suits oilier skin types well.
Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil - the top note
Ylang-ylang is the counterpoint to sandalwood's warmth. Derived from the flowers of the Cananga tree, it's floral and slightly exotic. This is the element of the scent that you notice first before the sandalwood settles underneath.
It also does useful work beyond smelling good. Ylang-ylang helps balance sebum production, has mild antimicrobial properties, and is associated with reducing inflammation at the skin surface. The scent combination of ylang-ylang over sandalwood is what gives Heather its distinctive character: warm but not heavy, floral but not sweet.

The result of Heather beard oil ingredients
Every ingredient in Heather beard oil has a job to do. Hempseed and jojoba work at the skin and follicle level. Argan conditions and smooths the hair itself. Vitamin E protects and repairs. Sandalwood and ylang-ylang deliver a scent profile that's worth wearing daily, and contribute their own skin benefits along the way.
No fillers. No synthetic ingredients. No carrier oils chosen because they're cheap. The same approach we've taken since 2012.
