The Ultimate Guide to Beard Night Routines

The Ultimate Guide to Beard Night Routines

READ TIME: 2 MINUTES.  It's not just you—I have also worried what is the best night routine for my beard. Waking up with a tangled, unruly beard can leave your skin feeling irritated. That's why establishing a solid beard night routine is crucial, not just for aesthetics but for the overall health of your beard. Let’s dive into how a nighttime routine can transform your beard game, ensuring you wake up with your beard in the best possible condition.

Why a Beard Night Routine Matters

The way your beard feels in the morning is largely determined by what you do with it before bed. Nighttime is an excellent opportunity for applying products that nourish and condition your beard while you sleep, minimising friction and preventing damage. Plus, a well-maintained beard is less likely to catch on something as you toss and turn, reducing the risk of hair loss and split ends.

Step 1: Cleanse Gently

You wouldn't go to bed without brushing your teeth would you? Cleaning your beard should be part of your nightly routine. Use a gentle beard wash that won’t strip your beard of its natural oils. Braw Beard Wash is a great choice—it cleanses effectively while keeping the beard soft and hydrated. Also having a beard free of dirt, grease and grime means less chance of spots developing on your skin.

Step 2: Apply a Nourishing Oil or Balm

After lightly drying your beard (always pat dry gently with a towel, no rubbing because it can damage the hair follicles!), it’s time to moisturise. Applying a small amount of Braw Beard Oil or Braw Beard Butter before bed helps condition your beard overnight. These products are packed with natural ingredients that keep your beard soft and manageable, reducing the likelihood of waking up with a beard like wire wool. Don’t use too much product at night though. Although Braw Beard products absorb really well, the excess may end up on your pillow.

Step 3: Detangle and Brush

A quick brush-through will distribute the product evenly and remove any tangles, setting you up for a smoother morning. Use a soft boar bristle brush which stimulates the skin and helps distribute natural oils along the length of your beard hairs.

Step 4: Secure Your Beard (for Longer Beards)

If your beard is long enough to tie, you can do that to prevent it from getting tangled while you sleep. Here are a few methods based on beard length:

  • Short to Medium Beards: A soft beard band can keep hairs in place without pulling on the skin.
  • Long Beards: Consider braiding your beard loosely. This not only keeps it tangle-free but also reduces the stress on your facial hair follicles. Or you can use a beard band to loosely tie your beard.
  • Very Long Beards: You might find it comfortable to loosely tie your beard in sections, which helps maintain control over more substantial lengths.

Common Concerns

Like myself, many bearded guys worry about overnight hair loss or damage. Remember, it’s normal to lose 50 -100 hairs each day, but reducing friction by sleeping on silk pillowcases (personally, I don’t do that) and keeping your beard well-moisturised can help minimise unnecessary beard hair loss.

I hope this helps?

Enjoy your beard journey!
